What is Happiness?

Happiness is a totally subjective thing. The irony is that people make themselves miserable trying to be someone else’s version of ‘happy’. You will only ever be your own version of happy. Forget living up to the expectations of others. Live up to your own.

Happiness is not something you have. It is something that you do. All things being equal if you sit and think in the way that represents happiness for you, your brain will ‘do’ happiness. If you don’t believe me, try the opposite. How would your body look if you were sad? Slumped shoulders, eyes down, shallow breathing… if you do that, you will feel sad. Do the opposite and you will feel happy.

In a healthy mind, nine parts of happiness is mindset and action. As Tony Robbins says: “Where thought goes, energy flows”.

Logic and Emotion

People prioritise logic and emotion differently. Some people think that one is more important than the other. They’re both important. If you know LOGICALLY that your job makes sense, but EMOTIONALLY you can’t drag yourself out of bed to do it, you’re in the wrong job.

If you know EMOTIONALLY that you should leave your job and become a full-time indiepreneur, but LOGICALLY you know your bills won’t get paid if you do so, then you have the wrong plan.

Jim Rohn spoke of the ‘gift of part-time’. It is perfectly possible to make a full-time income working part-time. He said you should:

  1. Work full-time on your job, and part-time on your fortune (your freelance work).
  2. Work full-time on your fortune and part-time on your job.
  3. Work full-time on your fortune and quit your job.

There are many ways to make a full-time income, working part-time. This is how I do it.
